Cleft lip and palate

In almost all cases of total clefts, although the primary surgery may be successful to a very high degree, it is often necessary to perform further corrective procedures during the growing period of the patient. Small corrections can be performed before school age. Larger deformities may need more advanced surgery like the example shown in the first figure attached (below).

In many cases of patients with clefts it is often necessary to perform secondary surgery to correct residual nose and palate problems that impede the correct way of speaking.
